The Lorax

Happy Arbor Day!! Go plant a tree and DON’T watch this horrible movie. In this environmental special, Raven and Campbell discuss environmental racism, a mismatched soundtrack, and the Parent Trap for some reason in the 2012 animated musical film, The Lorax.
The Wood Sprite Recipe:
- 1.5 oz rye
- 0.75 oz green chartreuse 
- 0.5 oz ginger simple syrup
- A few dashes of Angostura bitters
- squeeze of lemon, to taste
- seltzer water
Combine all ingredients except seltzer in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a Tom collins or wine glass with ice. Add seltzer water to taste, at least 2 oz.

Cinderella 1950

Redemption time. This week Raven and Campbell actually enjoy their time together while discussing background art, Spongebob guess who, and villain design in the 1950 animated musical film, Cinderella.
Sweet Dream Recipe:
1.25 oz vodka
1.25 oz blue curacao
0.5 oz campari
0.5 oz lime juice 
Soda water of choice
White granulated sugar
Use the sugar to rim a flute or tumbler. Combine all ingredients in a Shaker with ice and strain into sugared glass. Top with soda water.

Cinderella 2021 (feat. Shannon)

People should be arrested for this movie. This week Raven and Campbell are joined by F-tier musical enjoyer, Shannon, and together they stomach through horrible fashion designs, mismatched song choices, and James Corden in the 2021 jukebox musical film, Cinderella.
The Massacre Recipe:
-1 oz brandy
-1 oz campari
-1.25 oz sweet vermouth
-0.5 oz black cherry juice
-dash of angostura bitters
Combine ingredients into a shaker with ice. Strain into a rocks glass with ice.

The Magic Flute (2022)

What is literally everyone’s problem in this movie? This week Raven and Campbell discuss plot holes, bad educators, and possibly the worst dialogue known to humankind in the 2022 musical film, The Magic Flute.
Queen of the Night aria used for the playtime segment was performed by Rainelle Krause with the English National Opera for a 2023 run of The Magic Flute. Listen on your own at Queen of the Night | The Magic Flute ǀ English National Opera.
 
The Night Queen Recipe:
-2 oz sesame cream* (black sesame seeds, sugar, water, coconut cream)
-1 oz Jagermeister
-0.5 oz Empress 1908 gin
Combine ingredients into a shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled glass and enjoy!
*Add ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water, and ½ cup of toasted black sesame seeds to a sauce pan and simmer for about 5 minutes. Allow to cool and blend until mixture is homogeneous. Add 3 tbsp coconut cream and blend until smooth.

Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses

“Women be shopping” - Raven 2026. This week Raven and Campbell return to the Barbie Cinematic Universe and discuss classical music, reused character models, and feudal Barbieland in the 2006 animated film, Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses. Rest in Peace Catherine O’Hara.
Pink Dream Recipe:
-1.5 oz Empress 1908 Gin
-0.5 oz elderflower liqueur
-0.75 oz blueberry and bay leaf syrup
-0.5 oz lime juice
-Soda water or club soda
Combine liquors, syrup, and juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine and pour over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Top with soda water.

-0.5 oz creme de violette
-0.75 oz lemon juice
-0.75 oz vodka
-Soda water
Combine liquors and juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a martini or coup glass and top with soda water.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio

2022, the year of Pinocchio. This week, Raven watched the wrong movie (hahaha). With Campbell, they discuss personhood, Italian music, and the million iterations of this story in the 2022 animated film, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio.
Wood and Whiskey Recipe:
-2-3 oz whiskey
-Smoking wood chips of choice
Smoke your glass with whatever wood chips of choice and pour in whiskey. Enjoy!
